How to Make Your Perfume Last Longer

How to make perfume last longer

How to Make Your Perfume Last Longer is a question that, I believe, often comes to our minds.

Perhaps when we are getting ready to go out in the morning Perfume may not be an essential part of our routine but I think you will agree it is a way for a woman to feel good about herself and help her feel more confident. However more often than not while we spray our favourite perfume on as we leave in the morning, we find that by lunchtime the wonderful smell has disappeared.

However, there are some things we can do to make our beautiful perfume, that we love, last longer.

Ildiko Juhasz, a fragrance consultant advises that there are three ways in which you can help to make your perfume last longer.

Firstly she says that we should choose a perfume that will last.
She says:

“Citrus-based fragrances usually disappear faster while musks and woody based fragrances
tend to last longer because these oils evaporate slower”

With Fragrances, no matter which one you love to use, the concentration of oils within it depends on which type of perfume you use. Parfum is the most expensive and will last much longer than others as it contains the greatest percentage (20 – 30%) of essential oils. For this reason, it has more “staying power”
Next comes Eau De Parfum, which has 15 – 20% essential oils and then Eau De Toilette which has 5 – 15% essential oils. Perhaps these two are most suitable for everyday use. Lastly, we have Eau De Cologne which only has 2 – 4% essential oils. It is the weakest fragrance and naturally it is therefore the cheapest.

Whichever perfume strength you decide to use It is important to store your Fragrances in cool dark places away from direct sunlight if you want to preserve their potency

Another tip from lldiko Juhasz is to Apply your perfume in the right way

If your skin is moisturised well your Fragrance will last much longer. This is because the Fragrance Notes are trapped by the oils on the skin. After your shower always apply a moisturiser or body oil. Also, it is important to apply your fragrance on pulse points. This is because these areas are where the veins are closest to the surface of the skin. You should concentrate on applying your fragrance on your wrists, between your breasts, neck and believe it or not even behind the knees. You should never rub your wrists together after you have applied your Fragrance as doing this breaks down the essential oils. Another idea is to apply a light mist of fragrance through your hair.

Fragrance Companies often produce Body Lotions and Shower Gels to Compliment their Perfumes and this is another way to help your scent last longer on your body.

Essens Fragrances all have body balms and shower gels to match your chosen Perfume

The third and final tip that lldiko Juhasz has is to Not Overdo it when applying your perfume.

She says:

” Less is more! We tend to not smell our own perfume sometime after applying it,
this is actually a defence mechanism and our olfactive systems shut down”

However, this does not mean that others cannot smell it on us. It is wise not to apply to clothing as it could stain but also the scent is not diffused as well as when mingled with the natural oils on your skin.

An idea is to carry a travel-sized bottle of the perfume you use so that you can reapply it throughout the day, especially if you have dry skin. You would want to do this too, if you were heading straight to an evening out.

One final word from lldiko Juhasz

“As a general rule of thumb, fragrances will last 4 to 8 hours, depending on quality and concentration of essential oils.”
